The curriculum at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School for Pre-kindergarten through Eighth grade is comprised of: Religion, Math, Language Arts, (Reading, English, Spelling), Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, Physical Education, and Media. (Technology, Library)

Algebra is offered to qualified 8th graders only.

The curriculum provided by St. John Catholic School is in full compliance with the standards of the Florida Catholic Conference and the Department of Education for the Pensacola-Tallahassee Diocese.

In addition to the above curriculum St. John implements the Peace Works program, the Lures Program, Star Reader, Accelerated Reader, Star Math, Accelerated Math, Reading Counts, and Success Maker program.

*See individual grades for more in-depth curriculum goals.

Standardized Tests

All students in the Pensacola-Tallahassee Diocese take a standardized achievement test (ITBS). The Iowa Test of Basic Skills is a testing program which provides information regarding the educational progress of students and assists in planning and evaluating curriculum.

Report Cards and Grades
Your child’s grades and comments from teachers can be seen at anytime on PowerSchool. You must know your ID and password code. See available link on our home page.

Report cards are sent home for the 2nd and 4th quarters only.  If you have any questions about your child’s progress please make an appointment to see your child’s teacher.

Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten only prints an evaluation card the last two quarters of the school year.

Homework Assignments

St. John’s School believes that children benefit from homework. You can help your children by arranging a quiet place for them to work and by encouraging them to complete assignments.

Homework allows students to:

Learn responsibility and independence
Explore independent study, complete research, and develop creative thinking.
Review, enrich, and reinforce concepts taught at school.
Involve their parents.
Complete work not finished at school.
Complete make-up work due to absence.
Prepare and review for tests and assessments.

Special Education Services

Our Guidance Department can provide some assessment for our students and can refer you to the Escambia County School District for further evaluation.  Please contact your child’s teacher or the Counselor for more information regarding this service.  As a result of resources, St. John’s School may not be able to accommodate the needs of students requiring extensive special education services.
